Copperleafers Complete the Tokyo to Osaka Virtual Step Challenge!

Copperleaf’s Health & Wellness Committee received such positive reviews about last year’s Road to Hana Virtual Step Challenge, that they organized an even more epic challenge this year! In June 2023, the committee hosted the Tokyo to Osaka virtual step challenge to help promote healthy lifestyle habits and foster friendly competition between teams.

Teams consisting of 1-6 people attempted to collectively run, hike, or walk a goal distance of 672 km through Japan, beginning in the capital city of Tokyo, passing the Great Buddha of Kamakura, Mount Fuji, the Fushimi Inari Shrine, and ending in the historic city of Osaka. We wanted to ensure this challenge was inclusive of anyone with limited mobility, so travelling with assistive devices, such as walkers or wheelchairs, counted towards a team’s distance as well. Over 30 days, participants logged their steps using the Virtual Baton App and watched their team’s advancement along the interactive map below:

Congratulations to our 1st place winners, the Tenacious Tigers, who completed the entire distance in just 298 hours (in other words, in just over 12 days, they managed to journey over 672 km!). All other teams who completed the challenge were entered into a draw for a 2nd place prize. With that, congratulations to the Jogging Jaguars!

On behalf of the Copperleaf Health & Wellness Committee, we’d like to thank the over 130 Copperleafers who participated in this event. Together, we covered a combined total distance of 14,366 km—that’s 380 Mount Fuji’s stacked on top of each other or almost a round trip from Vancouver to Tokyo!

Thanks for coming along on the journey. We’re looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish next year!
