Copperleaf Partners with Indspire to Support Indigenous Representation in the Tech Industry
As one of the fastest-growing sectors in Canada, the tech industry has the opportunity to build a more diverse and inclusive workforce and create a more representative industry for the future. Expanding on our ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, Copperleaf is proud to partner with Indspire—an Indigenous charity that provides bursaries and scholarships to eligible students to help them complete their education and training, enhance their ability to support their families, and give back to the community.
In British Columbia, where Copperleaf is headquartered, Indigenous communities are vastly underrepresented in the tech industry at 0.7%, compared to a total population representation of 5.9%. Charities like Indspire are important because they create opportunities for organizations to invest in Indigenous talent and take meaningful action towards positive change and Reconciliation. Since 1996, Indspire has provided over $190 million in financial support through more than 59,000 bursaries, scholarships and awards to First Nations, Inuit and Métis students. Additionally, all Building Brighter Futures donations are matched by the Government of Canada allowing Indspire to double the impact for students.
Copperleaf is pleased to commit $25,000 CAD over three years to the Building Brighter Futures program to support Indigenous students pursuing post-secondary education within the fields of computer science, computer engineering, or information technology. By making this investment, we can contribute to the long-term success and sustainability of Indigenous communities in Canada and help to create a more equitable and inclusive society where everyone can access the tools they need to succeed.
By partnering with organizations like Copperleaf we are working together on our mission to provide post-secondary education scholarships to Indigenous students. By supporting their education, we are putting Indigenous students on the path to financial sustainability with lasting impacts.
