VISUE is owned by 13 distribution systems operators (DSOs). Collectively, these DSOs provide services to over 1.5 million electricity customers in Denmark. The VISUE members face similar asset management challenges—limited resources, evolving customer expectations, a lack of clarity on current and future risk exposure—that add complexity to investment decision making. In Denmark, like many other countries, there is also no common approach prescribed by the regulator for evaluating and reporting on asset health and performance.
Individually, the electricity operators did not have the capacity or funding to implement an asset investment planning and management (AIPM) solution. Instead, they joined forces to investigate asset management methodologies in other countries that would enable them to plan investments and manage risk in a streamlined and optimized way.
Working together, VISUE, its participating utility members, and the Copperleaf® team adapted the British CNAIM (Common Network Asset Indices Methodology) framework for monetized asset risk modeling to fit the needs of the DSOs and the Danish energy sector. This resulted in a localized CNAIM Value Framework embedded within the market-leading asset risk management solution, Copperleaf Asset™. Since implementing Copperleaf, the DSOs can monitor long-term sustainment needs, proactively manage risk, and demonstrate how their investments deliver maximum value.
